How to Double Your Savings at CVS

Save 20% plus $5 every month with CVS Carepass savings program.

CVS launched their ‘Carepass’ membership program in 2020.  To receive the benefits, sign up for CVS ExtraCare®. CVS ExtraCare® members can join Carepass for $5 per month, or $60 per year. If you select to pay once a year (annually), you save $12 and pay only $48 per year. This boosts your savings. CVS charges your credit or debit card every month or once a year depending on which payment option you select. Carepass gives you free shipping, coupon codes, discounts access to a pharmacist 24/7 and. . .

My two favorite benefits are $10 off certain CVS healthcare products and free 1-2-day shipping and delivery on prescriptions. I purchase a variety of CVS brand vitamins and supplements so Carepass puts money in my pocket, every month! At the same time, be sure to compare prices with other stores. Or price-check prices online. Recently, I purchased some vitamins on Amazon Prime and they beat CVS’s price hands down.

One thing to note: each monthly CVS Carepass $10 coupon expires at the end of every month. So, ‘use it or lose it’.

My guess is that CVS wants to combat Amazon’s entry into the online pharmacy world. But, who cares. If CVS Carepass saves you money, that’s the ticket.

I joined Carepass last year at my local CVS store. The cashier did not mention – or I missed it – the option to pay for one year’s membership in advance – $48 or $60 per year. So I selected the monthly pay option. I will be calling CVS next week to convert to the annual plan.

Along the way, be sure to sign up for CVS’ ExtraCare®. You can earn 2% back in CVS Extra Bucks Rewards every time you use your Extra Care card. Check the program rules.  To be fair, I have never found CVS to be the cheapest date in town. But, I like shopping there and in the interest of transparency, I own some shares of CVS common stock. I think CVS stores are nice and clean and the team members are friendly and helpful. And it’s convenient to fill prescriptions.

Every other month or so CVS sends a coupon for 25% or 30% off one purchase up to $99. I find that this brings their prices back towards market prices. My most convenient local CVS store is just 6/10th of a mile from my house and there’s one 7/10th in the other direction. Where I live, the Walmart and Target locations are a few towns away. So it’s not economical to drive to Walmart or Target unless I do a big shopping.

Regardless of how you fly, it’s always important to analyze a store’s pricing against your purchasing.
