How to Save 5% on Groceries All Year Long
The other day, I received my Target RedCard™ charge card statement in the mail.
Target included this package insert:
“You could save up to $675 per year on groceries with RedCard™ when you save 5% on every trip.”
They based their savings on “the USDA Food Plan average costs for a family of 4 (2 adults and children aged 6-8 and 9-11) with a moderate cost plan estimated spending of $1,128.20 per month.”
Okay – your family’s diet and grocery bill may differ from the average, and with the recent inflation, we all spend more money on food and groceries. So, the $675 estimated annual savings would increase (or perhaps decrease).
To get a decent estimate for your family, you have to compare the cost of the groceries you typically buy at Target’s vs the other grocery stores in your area.
I enjoy shopping at Target. But it’s not particularly convenient to my house. My local Target is a 20-minute drive from my house. So buying groceries at Target isn’t practical given the time and gas involved.
At Target, I have tended to purchase packaged goods over produce and meat. But people I spoke with gave positive reviews. You’ll have to test drive it yourself.
