How to Save $237 at Bars and Restaurants this Year!

Image sourced by Carlos Lindner @realbench

This year, last year and the year before, I saved over $237 Per Year at my favorite bars and restaurants. Automatically.

They pour your money – your savings – on to your credit card. Imagine that.

You can grab this savings too, with just a few clicks, one-time. And it’s Free to join. No annual fees, no maintenance charges, no hassles.

The secret sauce – no pun intended – is Neighborhood Nosh. It’s a Free dining rewards program for people that like to frequent bars and dine at restaurants.

Last week, Neighborhood Nosh poured another $36.57 on to my American Express card. Nice and easy.

If you’re like me, you Love no-brainer, effortless savings – programs that pour money into your pockets, automatically like clockwork, year-in, year-out.

And please don’t think for one second that $36.57 is miniscule. Remember, pennies add up to big dollars

When you dine at bars and restaurants that participate in Neighborhood Nosh’s program, the bar and restaurant give you a discount – cash back on your meal – on your restaurant and bar bill – Easy.

Thousands of bars and restaurants across the United States participate and give you 3% cash back, 5% cash back or 10% cash back when you dine in, get takeout, or order delivery.

Here’s how you can save money at your favorite bars and restaurants and earn restaurant savings and restaurant discounts:

  1. Visit Neighborhood Nosh’s website and join – become a member. It’s Free.

    1. There are no annual membership fees. And. . .

    2. No special membership or ID cards are required or needed either – just a payment card, for example a credit card.

    3. I don’t think they have added Venmo® yet.

    4. To maximize your savings, you have to agree to receive emails from Neighborhood Nosh. The emails list participating restaurants in your area (zip code). I don’t feel bombarded by their emails; but I receive so many emails that one or two may sneak by.

  2. When you become a member, add ALL your credit cards to the Neighborhood Nosh web portal. You can enter your debit card too.

    1. However, I use my debit card for ATM deposits and ATM cash withdrawals only. I believe that credit cards (as compared to debit cards) add a layer of security – a bit of distance between your bank account and a hacker.

  3. Visit their website and search for participating restaurants in your area:

    1. Enter the city or zip code where you want to dine. You’ll find participating restaurants across the USA.

    2. Select a restaurant that whets your appetite.

    3. I frequent establishments in my town and my parents’ town.

    4. In addition, I have used Neighborhood Nosh when I have gone on business trips, entertained clients (client meals) and when I used to visit my now ex-girlfriend in Los Angeles (I live in New York).

    5. Check out member reviews to help you select the best restaurants and bars.

    6. You don’t have to register or enter anything in the website; just show up at the restaurant or bar. Although, you may want to make a reservation at the restaurant you select.

    7. Some of my favorite local restaurants and bars participate, so I save money every month.

    8. I don’t typically select the restaurant or bar where I dine based on which restaurants and bars participate in Neighborhood Nosh. But I have added this task to my New Year’s Resolutions.

    9. To save even more money, select a bar or restaurant from Neighborhood Nosh and charge business entertainment – client meals and meals during conferences, seminars and other business meetings. When your company or client reimburses you for the meals, you earn the savings / discount without having to bear the cost of the meal. This is Free money.

    10. To grab even more savings, connect a credit card that gives you cash back on U.S. restaurants. One of my credit cards gives me 3% cash back – statement credit – on meals and cocktails at U.S. restaurants.

  4. When you visit a participating restaurant, Be Sure to pay your bill with your ‘linked card’. That’s one of your cards that you entered into Neighborhood Nosh’s web portal.

  1. By entering all your cards, you won’t have to think about which card to use to get the savings! Just drink, dine and pay.

  2. I carry a Visa card and an American Express Card and have entered Both into the Neighborhood Nosh website. This way, I can use whichever card I feel like and capture the Neighborhood Nosh the discount savings either way.

5. After you dine, Neighborhood Nosh emails you a brief, check-the-box survey. The survey takes less than a minute. When you complete the survey, you earn a higher discount savings rate.

How much can You earn with Neighborhood Nosh?

Last time I checked their website, there was no overall limit to the amount of cash back you can earn with Neighborhood Nosh!

But deals, discounts and restaurant savings change over time. So if you care, every so often, visit Neighborhood Nosh’s website and review the restaurant’s page for more information and current rules and regulations.

And check to see if your restaurant or bar is still participating in the program.

The Neighborhood Nosh reward amount you can receive is directly related to how much you spend at participating bars and restaurants in a year.

Needless to say, loyalty programs like these encourage you to spend more money. And this may be contrary to your financial goals, saving money and building wealth. While the rebates and discounts add up, you have to spend money at the bars and restaurants to earn the discount. And dining out is costlier than buying groceries and eating at home. Even with a 10% discount rebate, you still pay 90% of the restaurant or bar bill. Unless you earn the discount and your employer reimburses you for the total cost of the food and drinks and lets you keep the Neighborhood Nosh discounts rebates.

Neighborhood Nosh members earn:

  • 3% cash back at a participating location if you elect to not receive email communication from Neighborhood Nosh.

  • 5% cash back at a participating location if you elect to receive email communication from Neighborhood Nosh and have spent less than $750 in the calendar year.

  • 10% cash back at a participating location if you elect to receive email communication from Neighborhood Nosh when you have spent $750 or more in the calendar year.

When your total discount savings reach $20 in cash back, Neighborhood Nosh credits your total discount savings up to that point to the linked credit card or debit card you used most recently.

As I mentioned, last week Neighborhood Nosh dropped another $36.57 on to my American Express card. Nice and easy. Automatic savings.
