How to Save $10 at Staples Thank You Amazon! And $5 at Kohl’s

If you’re like me, you’re an Amazon Prime aficionado and you buy things every week or almost. Maybe you buy too much stuff. I do now and again.
Or you test drive some products and return them.
There’s a UPS Store in my town so returning Amazon purchases is easy peasy.
A few weeks ago, I had purchased a shirt from Amazon but it didn’t fit right. When I visited Amazon.com to initiate a return, for whatever reason my local UPS Store was not listed as a place to return Amazon purchases. Hmmm. . .
But I noticed that Staples office supplies was listed as a place to return Amazon purchases.
Nice – there’s a Staples store location a mile from my house. Easy peasy.
What’s more, Amazon’s site said I could receive a Staples save $10 coupon discount coupon if I returned my Amazon purchase at a Staples location. Sounds good to me.
I don’t know if that’s Staples way of drawing traffic. Or if Amazon is saving money because Staples customers can ship UPS products from the Staples store or a combination of both.
Kohl’s stores also accepts Amazon returns and gives you a save $5 coupon good towards purchases at Kohl’s.
But who cares! I’ll take the $10 at Staples or $5 at Kohl’s.
If you have more than one Amazon item to return, see if you can split them into multiple returns. I didn’t try this tactic but hopefully you can save the $10 at Staples or $5 at Kohl’s each time. But you may have to bring the item back in different drop-offs or separate trips on different days.
Here’s how you can grab your coupons and this save $10 savings at Staples:
Initiate your return on Amazon.com.
Fill out the information they request – which product to return, your reason, etc.
Select Staples or Kohl’s as the place to return the item.
Print out the QR code or make sure Amazon emails you the QR code before you leave your home or office.
Pack your item in a plastic bag or the item’s original packaging. Although Amazon says you don’t need packaging. I like to pack my items, especially if there is more than one piece. Plus, placing the item in a plastic bag helps keep the item cleaner.
Visit your local Staples [or Kohl’s] store. At the Staples store near me, the Print Shop was processing Amazon returns. Kohl’s isn’t near me so I didn’t test drive it.
When you hand in your product, get a printed receipt. My Staples receipt acknowledged the return and included a coupon to save $10 coupon.
Save your receipt until Amazon finalizes your return when they acknowledge that they have received your item(s). A couple of months ago, I had to call Amazon three times because a merchant kept sending me notices that they hadn’t received my item and were going to charge my credit card for the purchase (take back the temporary/advance refund).
As you might expect, there are a few strings attached:

Staples threw in a few other rules and restrictions to qualify for the discount, which you can find here if you care to.
I returned two Amazon purchases at Staples, on two different days.
The first time, I purchased toilet paper and paper towels. The total cost exceeded $30 so the cashier deducted $10 from my bill.
The second time I returned an Amazon purchase at Staples, I purchased a four-pack of Staples Electronics Duster (air in a can). I received another save $10 coupon. The price was $29.99 so I purchased a travel-size bottle of Scope® mouthwash at $1.29 which brought my total over the $30 required minimum.
I was surprised to discover that the $10 savings $10 coupon was ongoing, not just one-time.
I have found that Staples doesn’t offer the lowest prices or the best deals in town, but with the $10, that was a good deal for me.
I’m not a Kohl’s shopper so can’t give you any useful insight at the moment.
Regardless, it’s always worthwhile to compare prices for the items you buy.
When I searched online, I didn’t see an expiration date for the Staples discount promotion. But best to. . .
